The term ‘vintage’ has been much bandied about by designers and fashionistas of late, encouraging us to mix and match new designer items with older pieces. Vanessa and Warren, owners of established and well-loved vintage clothing store Tete a Tete on Hereford St and the newer Two Squirrels in Cashel Mall – for them, vintage is almost a way of life.
They’re both extremely passionate about it, which is apparent in the care taken over each piece displayed in store for sale. “Behind each fabulous vintage dress, pair of shoes or gorgeous piece of jewellery lies a great story. It’s fun to imagine what party or ball a certain dress was worn at, and what happened to the owner on the night. It’s also quite special to think about adding your own chapter to the ongoing history of a vintage piece.”
Tete a Tete and Two Squirrels are both places to spend some time looking for that perfect dress, beaded cardigan, hat or jacket. There’s plenty to fossick through and try on, all the while imagining yourself romancing the night away in that gorgeous ball gown and being swirled around the dance floor to the music of another era.
