Royal New Zealand Ballet: Romeo & Juliet
The world’s greatest love story gets an energetic and passionate new retelling on the 25th and 26th of August at the Isaac Theatre Royal when the Royal New Zealand Ballet rounds off its Christchurch season for 2017 with a brand new production of Romeo and Juliet, created by the company’s artistic director Francesco Ventriglia.
Chatting to Cityscape, Francesco says his new take on the classic is “… very much inspired by Franco Zeffirelli’s stunning classic 1968 film. We have an incredible team of collaborators: James Acheson, the three-time Academy Award winning designer will bring Renaissance Verona to life with his stunning set and costumes; dramaturgy will be provided by Mario Mattia Giorgetti; and Prokofiev’s instantly recognisable score will be performed live by the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Hamish McKeich. Passion, tragedy, rhythm and energy – this new ballet will have it all!”
