Theatrical thawing: What to see at The Court Theatre this winter

The Court Theatre is reopening its doors with the Winter Warmer series of four shows through July and August.
We’ve been waiting in the wings for more theatre to hit the stages this winter and things are starting to heat up with more shows announced all the time. We’re particularly stoked to see The Court Theatre reopening its doors with these funny and original productions and can’t wait to get out and enjoy some live theatre.
There’s something for the kids, the adults and everyone in between. Here’s what to expect at the Winter Warmers:

The Quarantine Diaries

The theatre’s official reopening performance comes from the talented young creatives in The Court Youth Company. Take this opportunity to get behind the scenes in an immersive production that goes to parts of the theatre usually closed to the public.
The Court Youth Company came up with this show in lockdown, and it’s an exploration of their own experiences as well as the physical spaces behind the stage.
Dates: July 1 to July 4

The Early Early Late Show

Part of the city-wide KidsFest, this family-friendly show is an improvised comedy by The Court Theatre’s house comedians. Designed for kids ages seven to 12 as well as their whānau, this promises to be a great early evening of entertainment for anyone who likes a chuckle in the school holidays.
Dates: July 5 to July 9, and July 12 to July 16

Scared Scriptless Attempts

Six nights, six different improvised shows by The Court Jesters. The comedians behind The Court Theatre’s regular improv show bring us this epic attempt to create a new production every night. When picking your date, choose between a musical, Shakespeare play, witchcraft and wizardry, Jane Austen adaptation, romantic comedy or battle royale.
Dates: July 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25

Up Close & Personal

Don’t miss this opportunity to get Up Close & Personal with two excellent New Zealand entertainers. Theatre actress Ali Harper and jazzman Tom Rainey are putting on their new cabaret production. This one is dinner and a show, in the tradition of intimate New York cabaret clubs. Expect an extensive range of songs and stories.
Dates: August 5 to August 8
